Spring Decor Update

Tell me I'm not the only one who loves a decoration enough to keep it for ten years...!!! Yep. I made this at a Relief Society Super Saturday years ago. It's a bit hard to tell what it says in the heart. "Think Spring!" When I got it out this year I resolved to do something about the fact that it is hard to read and this turned into a comeplete redo. Pretty much everything changed.

The tea dyed skirt, fabric squares and buttons...gone. Checkers on heart...obsolete.

Boring carrot is no more. Again...buttons, so last decade in this application.

Let's give a warm Spring Welcome to our new "Think Spring!" door hanging. More vibrant colors, saying definitely easier to read, and the up-to-date flowers on Ms. Bunny, heck, spring might just come calling!

In particuar, I {heart} the new heart.

First, I painted the heart white, followed by a pink and brown chevron pattern. After that, I sanded to let some of the white come thru. And last, adhered a vinyl saying. (The first one was drawn on with a sharpie. We didn't have silhouette and cricut machines back in the day.)

[Here's where I would insert a longing sigh....wish it was cut from my own Silhouette SD...still not totally sure if it's worth the money. But would LOVE, Love, LOVE, to try one out. FYI, I used masking tape to tape off the chevron, not perfect, but it worked. Another reason for aforementioned new mommy toy.]

Mr. Bunny is sporting new spring green shortalls, and a much improved carrot in its own tulle bag. The ribbon in his bow tie matches the ribbon on Ms. Bunny's heart.

Ms. Bunny's skirt fabric served as my inspiration for the entire redo.

Needless to say, I was super excited to find a small scrap piece of this favorite fabric left in my stash. Notice that she also is wearing fashionble ric-rac leggings with her new twisted fabric flowers in her hair, on her skirt, and on her heart-shaped bag.

I love it and that's about all that matters. The best part might be the total project cost... just 30 cents! I had all the fabric scraps on hand, just had to purchase the vinyl.

{My friend with a vinyl cutter is pretty cheap and fast...another reason I'm having trouble justifing the cost of my own machine. Someone, please tell me it's Sssooooo worth it???!!!!!}

Revamping Recipes...Carrot Torte

Don't you love it when you learn a new baking technic that makes you ~~look~~ cook better in the kitchen?

Last week I showed you a picture of hubby's birthday cake...a chocolate torte. Experimenting with the recipe resulted in something fantastic...a carrot torte, if you will.

Here's another picture...I'm not the greatest at taking food shots; I love the up close perspective of the photo above, but the love the coloring of the photo below. Maybe someday I'll get it right.

Here's the modified recipe:

Carrot Torte

1 spice flavored cake mix

1 cup sour cream

1 3.5oz pkg of vanilla pudding

3 eggs

1 1/3 cup water

1/4 cup oil

1/2 cup frozen carrots, thawed and chopped

1 cup raisins

(1/4 cup flour...for high altitude. We are at 3500 ft so I always have to add extra flour)

1. Mix together all ingredients except raisins. If everyone is opposed to raisins, you may consider adding 1 cup of carrots instead. Extra vitamins never hurt anyone.

{In our house we are divided between those who like raisins and those who don't. Plus, I planned to take it to mutual for treats and figured I might have a mixed reaction. I poured half of the batter into prepared pans and then added raisins to the batter before pouring into the second pan.}

2. Prepare the pans. I am a huge fan of parchment paper when I am turning a cake out of it's pan. Spray with pam, add parchment paper, and respray.

{I used two heart-shaped pans so I could cut them in half to make a carrot shape, however, a round cake would work, too. If you 're feeding a crowd, use a sheet cake pan and frost the top...the presentation won't be quite the same, but it'll still taste just as yummy.}

3. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45, increase the time on the box by about 5 or 10 minutes because of the carrots and raisins. Just remember that a toothpic should come out clean before it's done. FYI... A sheet cake usually will cook in 20-25 minutes.

4. Let cool and frost with the same amazing frosting from this post. BTW, I used low fat cream cheese and it turned out just fine. Tasted delicious!

Frosting:

1 pt. HEAVY whipping cream (no exceptions)
1 (8-oz.) block Cream Cheese (full calorie, NO exceptions)
2/3 c. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
½ tsp. Salt

In you mixing bowl whip your whipping cream until very thick. In a separate bowl blend together cream cheese, brown sugar, vanilla and salt. Now fold together the cream cheese mixture and the whipping cream.

To assemble your carrot shaped torte, cut each heart-shaped cake into four pieces by cutting in 1/2 to make two carrot shapes and then in 1/2 again horizontally. Should've taken a picture. The cake with raisins is a bit difficult to cut due to the raisins inside. I would like to slightly blend the raisins next time to break them up. If you are making a cake with AND without raisins, be sure to stack/layer the four layers without raisins together or you'll defeat your entire purpose. This will require that you turn cakes upside down to keep your heart/carrot theme going. Simply position one cake layer, frost, another layer, frost, until all four layers are in position. Top with orange sprinkles. Or you could be super crafty and color white chocolate meltys orange and make some cool orange chocolate curls. There's a great tutorial for chocolate curls here. Lastly, add some greenery for carrot tops. I bought dollar store greenery, but my friend Tiffany mentioned that parsley would have also looked amazing.

Just in case you thought this post wasn't long enough...here are a few pictures from mutual. Our Mia Maid class was in charge. The girls brought easter eggs, paper, and pencils. We divided into groups of four and set up a hunt for the first 30-45 minutes. Then we switched off and went hunting. The girls had plenty of fun.

Keeping It Real

My loving youngest came up behind me this morning and gave me a hug. He tells me if I am good I can have another one today at lunch.

We are hanging out. Nothing pressing really. I had a couple appointments, but they fizzled.

At some point I will get dressed and go buy bread to get us through the weekend.

It's nice to have an occasional day like today.

This reminded me of the yummy cake I baked for hubby's birthday last week. I have to share. The recipe is no secret; it's the chocolate torte I ran across on this blog.

Totally delicious and fancy looking, too.

Today I am revamping the recipe.

Instead of chocolate torte it will be a carrot torte.

My house is starting to smell yummy!

Foolin' Around

Last year for April Fools day I made pancakes. Not just normal pancakes...felt pancakes. Basically, I cut out felt circles, dipped them in pancake batter and cooked them up on the griddle. I fooled everyone.

I took these pictures last year...wasn't into blogging so I have never done anything with them...until now.

I really fooled my four boys. I even made some of them cry. We need to loosen up around here.

So, this year I couldn't come up with a good prank. I did find and print out this. It's a full color Chore Camp Brochure from Family Fun. I printed it out and presented it to the boys this morning. Congratulations, we are sending you to camp this summer. They caught on pretty quickly. We tried to talk it all up and they even played along...yep, knew we were foolin' around.

But then...I brought out the pancakes. And this time I fooled them.

All of my boys were picking in their pancakes, checking for felt, or anything else suspicious. I handed the camera to my hubby and whispered to him to take pictures, making sure they heard...now they knew I was up to something. Were there onions in the batter??? What was different?

I let them worry a bit longer before telling them that the joke was on them. There was nothing wrong with the pancakes. They were completely normal, fine, edible...ha, ha, ha!

The younger boys pranked Dad with the usual...newspaper in his shoes. Of course he totally played along and asked who had shortened his shoes. And then he attempted putting them on.

Everyone scurried out of the kitchen to finish combing hair and brushing teeth before school. I did dishes and cleaned up. If I got everything picked up before they left, I could get straight to getting myself ready and get on to today's errands.

Boy #4 came running upstairs. Someone had eaten all the starburst candies in the basement. He was holding the large glass container from the wet bar! I later learned, too late, that he had been sent by Boys #1 & #2. The joke was on me. And I fell for it. They had simply emptied the jar into a bag. What naughty children! Where do they learn these horrible tricks?

Everyone was off to school. Boy #4 doesn't have kindergarten today, so he got ready, too. We had to go buy Conference Candy ready to play Conference Bingo this weekend.

And I was secretly hoping to find a garage sale...or two. Lucky me. Check out these finds. The Cloche was just $1...yes, please. Can't wait to find me a birdie. I have a nest that will look great inside. I've been eyeing these all over blogland...here is just one example. The Easter items will go nicely with what I already have and were only $1.75 altogether..no foolin'.

There was just one other pile I couldn't keep my off my mind. I knew if I left them there, I would wish they were mine. My biggest dilemna was which to take and which to leave. All of the pieces together were $3.75 (not a huge deal) and I probably didn't need all of them, but I had to choose.

So I asked very nicely if they would take $2 for all of it! And she said YES! Again...no foolin'.

The platter might be the perfect place for a spring quote. I really don't need it as a platter. Maybe this:

Successful surgery and more...

Remember my dryer.

Nothing like a good-as-new appliance for just $16. That's right. The local applicance part's store sold it cheaper than online. Drying clothes, a job that used to take 45 minutes to an hour, was taking about three hours. Three plus hours per load of laundry equals several long days of work and one getting-grouchy mom.

After the easy fix was installed (by my handy husband) we checked to be sure everything was running smoothly. As my hubby proceeded to put everything back, I stopped him...sorry, I said, everything coming out. I'm not puting it back in all this filth. The washer came out, and lots of other junk I didn't know had fallen behind in the several years we have been here. Boy #4 was right there, helping me clean. In case you didn't know he has a cleaning obsession.

And I totally didn't stop there.

When I got married, one of my roommates, Loa, made me a super cute cross-stich. I've loved it and it has stayed with me in every apartment and home. Honestly...I've been tired of the oak frame for some time. It's been screaming at me for a redo. Here's what I came up with:

I apologize for this shot...I have very little space in my laundry "Hall." I was nearly sitting on the washer.

Sometimes I whine about this and then I remember how much I love having the laundry room upstairs and not down. It can be quite convenient to change the laundry while making dinner or mopping the kitchen floor.

The top of the cabinet looked bare...I went "shopping" around the house. The IKEA CD storage boxes were hiding their cuteness inside a cupboard. Since I got my android phone and pandora radio, I don't listen to the CDs that often anyway. Maybe someday. The huge clothes pin was a project from our local craft store. It was brown and I had modge podged scrapbook paper to it...never liked it...now I do. Spray paint and the hand sander...enough said. And lastly, a valentine I gave my hubby...again, hiding in a cupboard.

My poor old black rag basket got a new coat of spray paint and an update. I went "shopping" for fabric in my sewing room.

{For some odd reason I have very little selection in the pink department. Really the reason is obvious. I have four boys....enough said.}

While "shopping," I did find a pair of pink striped Gap pants. I bought them FOREVER ago while thrifting with the intention to turn them into capris or shorts for myself. They will now be shorts.

I'll attempt to show you...a tutorial of sorts. This is a first for me.

Cut off the pant legs long enough to reach to the bottom inside the basket and hang over the desired amount outside the basket. You can use a measuring tape. I just held in up to the basket. I also chose to use the original hem on the pants to thread my elastic thru so I only had one seam measurement to account for, the bottom where I attached the lining.

Shown here is one of the two cut off legs. I opened up the leg by cutting down one seam. They were a straight leg pant, no flare or anything crazy. To accomodate the taper in the basket, I cut out two small triangles, leaving the hem at the top. Do this on both legs.

Next, thread elastic thru. I threaded the elastic in both sides, looping the elastic at one end. Sew up the edge with both cut ends. Then, sew up the second side, stopping about 2 inches down from the top. At this point I could check my elastic on the actual basket before sewing it up and cutting off the loop of remaining elastic.

To add a bottom in the basket, I grabbed a lid that fit in the bottom of the basket. Added a inch or so more, and simply sewed it in to the bottom, right sides together of course. Very easy. Sewing projects around the house are lot of fun, because they usually do not require a lot of precision. Sometimes I like that. Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy.

Just like that, I turned a dull and dirty room into a fun, funcitonal space using things I already had. Thrify decorating at it's best.

My favorite part of the whole laurndry room redo...undoubtedly the $3.54 can of spray paint I used to transform the picture frames and clothes pin. Even with the new dryer part, a whole room got a new look for under $20!

To finish off the project I got out the paint. Yep...touched up all the walls and trim in there too. Here's my walk-thru laundry space. The door heads out to the garage. Picture is taken from the kitchen.

Whoever said a room makeover couldn't be done for cheap...

My almost 14 year old dryer has been most helpful over the years. During the last year it has become increasingly noisy...I thought for sure a belt was going to break. Then it magically got quiet again. I wrongly assumed it had fixed itself.

Nope. As we all know...appliances never fix themselves...just like...well nevermind...

After several weeks with a three hour drying time for even the smallest of loads, we got to taking it apart. Turns out the blower wheel isn't rotating. A new blower wheel is listed online at $20.68. Can wait to get me some dry clothes in under an hour.

Boy #4 and I are at the park. I can't keep from thinking about him growing up. No one else asks me to take them to the park. Instead they want me to take them to a store to buy them something. I think in a way I'm grieving him growing up. He's my only boy that still used kid size hangers. Everyone else has graduated to big hangers; they steal mine when they run out.

Here is what I'm hearing:

You crack me up mom.
Mom, come here.
Do you know what a "uou pee lay lee" is?
Do you know what an underdog is?
Can you give me one?

I keep telling myself to enjoy it for now. Who knows just how long it will last.

Valentines Day

So...last week my SIL Ann and I attended a women's luncheon and swiped a few cupcake wrappers left by others guests. These intricate cut outs inspired my entire Valentines Day Dinner.

As soon as the kids left for school, I set the table and started chicken in the crock pot. I was committed. Later in the afternoon, I baked the cupcakes and finished the rest of dinner...artisan bread, ravioli with alfredo sauce, green salad, and a vegetable.

I tried something new...instead of buying the expensive sugar sprinkles, I took some raw sugar (I think that's what it's called) and shook it up with food coloring...amazing results. One other bit of advice...don't spend money on cute Valentine cupcake liners when using a red velvet cake mix. There was so much food coloring in the batter that they turned red; no sign of the decoration that once adorned the liner. Oh well.

Later that evening after Family Home Evening, we enjoyed homemade ice cream. I got to thinking outloud that somewhere there are four girls enjoying Valentines Day with their families.

Me: Maybe they are dreaming about the awesome Valentines Day dinner they will one day cook for their future husband.

I've been gone for a bit for good reasons..sick kid. Really sick. I'd have taken a picture, but it wouldn't have been pretty. Not pretty like the pretty Spring Modbe Fashions. Gearing up for Spring

While gearing up for spring,

I visited the dollar store and found some treasures.

Then I saw Kimm at Reinvented had posted a trash to treasure link and had to join. Check out the second project I've posted for some serious re-useing and recycling of materials for an awesome doorhanging to spruce up your porch.

I love the trend of using words cut from wood around my house. So this plain boring wood went from blah to beautiful with a coat of paint, some sanding, and a few fibers from my scrapbooking supplies. Nothing says spring like a relaxing day at the park or out in the backyard.

I also "needed" new spring door decor out front.

Afterall, I had an upcoming Boutique at my house. You can't very well sell swim suits if you still have a Christmas Wreath on the front door.

I made this for all of $3, my time, and a few supplies from around the house!

The flowers were a selection of three dollar store sprays that I meshed together and hooked together with a few kitchen twisty ties and packing tape. Easy.

I looked for several days for the perfect hanging pocket to hold them on the door and in the meantime found an adorable vase made from sticks. While examining it, I realized that the same principle could be applied to my front door so I came home and got to work. The vase from the store used styrofoam and then hooked sticks all around the round styrofoam base to make a vase.

I didn't have styrofoam and wanted a pocket so I made my own from a cake mix box turned inside out. I tapered the bottom corners and taped the box back together with the brown side out. Then I covered the whole box with glue and started adding sticks that I cut from an old bush down by the railroad tracks. I was getting a bit impatient for it to dry so I just drew an entire line of glue horizontally across the middle and tied a cute bow to hold everything in place. I could have also used mod podge here, but I already had the glue out. I did not add any sticks to the back so it wouldn't scratch the door.

In the box/vase, I put a few rocks to weigh it down and stuffed it with newpaper before inserting my dollar store flowers. I also added a little bit of moss on the top of the newspaper to hide it.

Last of all, I used a length of wire through the back to make a hook to hang it with and hung it outside. And If I decide later that I want it in the house...it will stand on its own.

Mod Podge Mania...I can't resist

I hope no one faints...I'm going to post back to back. I saw this button on this blog and was forced to take a look. Anyone who knows me know I love Mod Podge, although I love calling it Modge Podge and have even (in a typ0) called it Modbe Podge. So I quickly gathered up a few years back of super easy projects using the crafty stuff and clicked away with the camera this a.m...

First off, the clipboard. I love putting these together to take to my Modbe Boutiques for orders. This particular year I added a flower and glass button which turned out to be a mistake since you can't really write with a big glass blob behind the order form, but it also acted like another catalog at my Boutiques.

In 2006 (Modbe's first year of swim) I made my first box to store swim liners for trying on swim bottoms at Modbe Boutiques. Each suit was numbered in the catalogs so customers could order by the number. #3 was the first suit sold out that year. It was the Olive Diagonal with the HOT yellow floral bottom. I still smile to look at that gorgeous fabric/color combo.

In 2007 I carried on the tradition but found a round box. These are just those simple brown paper mache boxes you can pick up at Wal-Mart, Roberts, Jo-Ann's, and even some dollar stores. This box is much bigger in order to fit a much large swim line.

So, in 2008, I "HAD" to make another box. With each year, Modbe's swim lines got even bigger so this box ended up showcasing just one color in each style of suit. I love the story of this "Trunk;" It's one of my favorites. I won the metal trunk/lunch box at a scrapbook store. It had been a display so it was a bit beaten up and decorated with travel stickers. Not really my style. While I loved the case, I knew it wouldn't be used to store post cards. I left on the straps and rearranged/added letters on the circle (It once said "Post cards) and of course mod podged on photos of Modbe's 2008 swim line from the catalog. It acts like an extra catalog at boutitques and stores business cards, change, liners, and pens.

And then last year....My friend Lara and I made thiese cuties. Basic wooden letters with scrap paper Mod Podged on, and ribbons, and tags, and buckles, and flowers. When I say that Modbe is my girly outlet I'm so not kidding. Boys don't really care too much for all the cute stuff in life. Although, my almost four year old was the inspiration for my next/last project.

I was at the computer getting some things ready to join him by the T.V. He found my bag with some paints and brushes and went running upstairs telling me he was going to go paint some wood.

I'm thinking to myself: "oh cute. he's going to get his watercolors..."

About 3 or 4 minutes later it occurs to me that the paints he's referring to are the craft paints with my stuff in there by the T.V.

I go BOOKING it up the strairs and find this board from the garage on a nicely laid out piece of newpaper and already totally brown. I am amazed that no clothes are ruined. I (of course) thank him for staying clean and remind him in my super calm mother voice that we always paint with mommy paints with Mommy!

Of course you can't throw away the board so as I use the excess paint to help him get the sides and back we think about what we can do. We go to the pictures and find a great family photo. The wording is from a recent primary song he is learning. The whole thing was done in less than 30 minutes. I have a feeling I'll be doing a few more of these with a group for Mother's day in the next month.

You can't tell me you don't already want someone to craft you up one for Mother's day, too!

I apologize for such a long BLOG absense. I must try to do better.
Here is a bit of what I have been doing while gone...or here...whatever.

First off, I have an ugly finger. While washing the window in our newly finished bathroom I shut the window on my finger. It was more like I thought the window was open more than it was and so in order to shut it quickly I didn't allow any time to remove the finger.

Thankfully the bruise is slowly but surely making its way up the nail bed. It might only take about 4 or five more months at this rate for me to have awesome nails again. Not that I ever really had great nails. That only happens when I take prenatal vitamins. That's not in the future that I can tell.

Oh, and Just in case you want to see my cute bathroom...love it! First picture is the wall art and shower in awesome 18" tiles. My husband's pretty handy with EVERYTHING! If you look close you can see the randomly placed glass tiles in the accent tiles.

The same accent tiles were used as backsplash at the counter top. I am loving the colors in the room. You'll also notice the oddly placed window that we are still working around. The mirror is currently propped up in the corner. Has anyone else ever encountered this? I'm thinking a wall mounted mirror with a swivel. Or maybe just a 2x6 board mounted to hang the mirror from.

Anyway, loving it just the same. Husband is currently working on a great matching rack to hang the towels and I promise to hang the towel rack and toilet paper holder too!

Just a week or so after the finger incident, I got to be a part of Modbe Clothing's '09 Swim Preview. I got to model the solid blue knot top and looked super hot in my awesome spray tan. I hid the finger with hot pink nail polish. It did a great job.

Here's a picture of all our models. Anyone who knows me might wonder where I am. I was sitting at a table intently listening to a great speaker and just barely made it to the stage. You should know I am not usually one to miss out on my cue, but the "schedule" was thrown off.

Since the release of Modbe Swim '09 I have been partyin' it up. I really do mean that. Just my sales this month nearly topped $5000! Swim is super hot. Here are a couple of styles and my thoughts/comments:

Biggest surprise: The Black Polka Dot Flounce. I TOTALLY thought this was going to be a hit with the teens. Not so! The Flounce boasts a bottom ruffle that seriously turns any body shape into the perfect hour glass figure. I have already sold this swim top in at least one of every size. This suit is also great for the sun lover as the top tie is just for looks. Just remove for the perfect tanned shoulders with no straps. This top, along with the two below, will likely be the first ones sold out this season!

Just MY OPINION...First to sell off in '09: Tie Front Modbe Dots (top) and Knot Tops. These tops are just selling like hotcakes. You want one? Better order one today! I'm SERIOUS!Both tops are super adjustable. Each have a tie in the front that can to tied tight or loose depending on the amount of cleavage you like to expose. The Knot top is super comfy with an underwire bra and side ruching to flatter and slim any tummy troubles. Comes in Solid Black, Blue, Pink, and Eggplant. The Tie Front (top) is also available in four great colors (Navy Stripe, Rainbow Stripe, Pink Polka Dot, and Modbe Dots (pictured)). It can be tied as a halter or as a typical tank style. This is done by taking both ties from either side and tying them together just between the shoulder blades. I'll try to include a picture of this. Super supportive without pulling at the neck like a traditional halter can do if you sport a C+ cup size.

In addition to these fun happenings there is always laundry, birthdays, and life in general...you know how it goes. Try to make everyday super fun! I will be back sooner than later.

Wow....hotel reservations for Disneyland...just what we need. I would so love to go further, like Florida or Hawaii but I think I'll start by being realistic. The kids would go Ga-Ga over their first plane flight to California (and I think I could handle the flight, too...with four kids and no DVD of their own to control). We would visit the coast and spend several days at Disneyland. We might get some really happy faces, I'm thinking like this:

Family pictures are all about looking good, especially MOM--after all, I am the one who critics it the most. I put together a brown theme and thought it might to fun to be a bit different as I'm the only feminine one of the bunch...but now I'm thinking I just stand out too much.

What do you think?

I love the seating in this pictures but wonder if the adorable orange wrap sweater might just be a bit overbearing. I'm thinking enlarged on my entry wall, I might hate it.

Brandon G. is a senior in High school and so....it seems, I am back in the world of Teen Fashion and getting ready for the Homecoming dance. Nathan needed a corsage and suddenly so did Trevor, Cameron, Logan, and Logan's brother. And then, I couldn't just throw away the last two roses...my MIL's birthday celebration is tomorrow. Why not? I was so excited, I almost gave it to her today. I digress. This got me thinking about cute prom dresses, like the navy one below and then of the yellow "prom dress" on project_runway. I quite liked Korto's dress and most everything else she's designed. I am loving this show. I am wondering what will happen with next week's episode. This is my first season to watch and so Wednesday night has new-found funness.

So, here is Brandon's corsage. I think the yellow roses are going to look quite stunning with his date's olive green dress. And the black will totally match his attire, too. And I had to include the pink roses with black accent. Sorry to not have actual pictures of dates and dresses...maybe another time.

I met Sandi Henderson in April and have been so neglectful that I didn't add our picture to "blogland." I have to say that in quotations as I've lifted it right off Sandi's blog and used it all day today. When I was a girl...

Maybe you don't know this about me but when I was a younger version of myself, I loved wearing dresses. I do not remember if it was the twirling, the fancy shoes, or what...I just loved being a bit gussied up. Anyway, this super cute dress reminded me of this one aspect of myself. And the fact that you can win this super cute dress and I don't even have a daughter to put it on! That's another blog for another day...four boys...maybe I'll see if I can't comment on her blog and win it for a niece. I'm thinking just now that when I get two dresses made for a friends twins, I will have to take a picture of them to show just how cute they turn out.

Also, I have a bit of a confession...I still love to wear dresses. Well, right now mostly skirts but it is a dress just the same. Does anyone else do this? I have to laugh at the comments I get. My piano student asked me one day where I was going after. My youngest son no longer asks if it is Sunday. Not many people wear skirts on a daily basis, well except for my grandma. There is only one thing that is really unfair--that my feet can't take the shoes. I can do heels/flats for 2 hours at a time and only for so many days in a row (darn those high arches.) Anyway, I love a free give-a-way so I couldn't resist.

No excuses

I really do not have an excuse for not posting in forever...but these might qualify and are the main reasons for not having posted. I WILL DO BETTER...maybe I should type that 10 more times for positive reinforcement. I will do better, I WILL do better, I will DO better...
I'll spare you the agony.

1. My April, May, and June were full of swim orders--people coming to my "Modbe Room" to try things on or throwing together a quick party with a group of friends.
2. I did parties with Emma, Joy, Liz, Mandy, Sandi, and Tiffany. Plus there was Lisa, Davian, Stacey, kim, Angie, and Christie. (My goal is to post a bit about some of these hostesses over the next week or so...you can hold me to it.)
3. And then there is the summer filled with vacations, playing, and general kid keep-up. As short as the summer has seemed in retrospect, I will be glad to clean up in the morning without reminding someone to do his job.
4. My SIL, Emma, visited (Oh, my brother came, too) from WA and we were able to hang out with their boys. I wish we had even done more as though we could have fit it in.
5. And just so you do not think that I have done nothing fun just for me...I fit in a trip to Park City last week with girls friends Anne, Kim, Michelle, and Jen. If you happen to read our bits of wisdom from said girls trip on Michelle's post, I should warn you...don't believe everything you read. LOL

Saturday at Tiffany's

Isn't there a song about that? I guess it was just Brunch at Tiffany's, not breakfast. LOL, Funny me! April brought a string of parties...I really didn't think they would all hold so I booked them, knowing I would have a descent month even if a few cancelled. When it all played out, I did eight parties in 16 days. Thank goodness for those daytime and Saturday morning parties. Here I am with Tiffany on a bright Saturday morning. We chipped in together and purchased a $20 gift certificate to be raffled at the party. I helped three gals new to me find great suits to flatter their bodies. I love that repeat customers are so excited to try on the new suits and colors. Tiffany was like a kid in a candy shop. She even had her suits from the past two years on hand to see if some of the colors might match a new top on this years line. We reminisced about the olive diagonal of two years ago...what a hot suit. It sold out SO quickly. Modbe truly is one of a kind...you gotta get one before you favorite sells out this year!

Heidi and Lisa

Sisters Lisa and Heidi were both hostesses in March and April. I had booked Heidi's party off of a party in February and Lisa booked at Heidi's party. Did you catch all of that? I am very jealous that Heidi gets to go to Hawaii this month. And I just fell in love with the area where Lisa lives. Makes me want to move again and for anyone that knows me that's kind of ODD! Both sisters had great parties. I liked that they were during the day so I still had my evening to veg with the boys at home. Everyone loved the burgandy ruffle wrap and were looking for other great options in case there were to go swimming together. Like we need to find excuses or somehow rationalize the need to buy a second swim suit!

One of my favorite things about life with Modbe is this...always meeting and making new friends. Liz and I met nearly three years ago. Here we are nearly two years later! Liz is one of those inspirational women who loves learning and reading. She recently did the couch to 5K challenge and is a running maniac. I remember one of our first times we met. We talked about how just because a person is skinny doesn't mean they are in shape. Anyway, Liz had a pretty decent party. One gal who came is a three year veteran with Modbe's swim suits and bought three!!! If you haven't tried a Modbe suit yet...you are truly missing out. Have Friends, Will Craft

In March, L. and I got together for a Modbe craft day. We used the ever-versitile Modge Podge and adhered scrapbook paper to wood letters to spell out SWIM. Then we added tags of the new suits and embellished away. They turned out super cute and add a great look to my Modbe room. It's so cute I can't really call it an office. Maybe I should post what it looks like one of these days... I love it how all of the crafts of past and present have kind of all become one!

Meet Luella

Meet Luella of small town Idaho. We met for the first time on Saturday, the day of her party. We had spoken on the phone and email a few times, but when I learned that she had three boys, we became instant friends. Anyone who has ALL boys knows instantly the kinds of stories we shared. The other cool things about a Modbe boutique here in small town Idaho is you always run onto someone you know. Lulla's SIL, Amy attended the same HS as I and graduated a year after me. Anyway, once when we talked by phone, I suggested Luella have a party, invite over some girl friends and try on the new swim and Modbe's True Rise Denim Jeans in person. It was a GO! Although I am pictured here in my Modbe Jeans, Capsleeve top and Re-Zip Hoodie, I actually wore the burgundy ruffle wrap swim suit with matching burgundy skirt for the first hour or so of the Boutique. Never done that before! It was fun. And the party atmosphere was great; lots of people came out of the dressing rooms to get advice on their own suit. I felt like it kind of took off some of the initial pressure to model what you try on. I'll add another picture of the party and let you know how Luella's party closes in a couple of days.

Scrapbooking meets Modbe

As a Modbe Consultant who loves to scrapbook, I find that I mix the two quite a bit. Who wouldn't want a super cute sign--so much more fun than a computer generated, one-dimensional piece. Anyway, my super creative husband helped me come up with this great poem to remind party goers that booking a boutique of their own is always a great option. I was having trouble coming up with a rhyme for boutique but he quickly came up chic (remember, you pronounce that sheek) which of course rhymes nicely. The rest of the peom was sheer colloboration. The scrapbooked poster, my idea! It isn't the first time I've used my scraping supplies with Modbe. I also made a the box above to hold panty liners which I use at boutiques for hygiene purposes. The liner box this year is made of tin with a lunch box clasp and handle tied with ribbons. So...all that said, who wants to book a modbe boutique today? Not in Idaho? Modbe Founder, Trish Wilhite

In my search for pictures earlier this week I came across a great photo taken in September of 2006 at Modbe's first ever Modbe Mesh. I attended with about six other area consultants, although only four are pictured here. With us is Trish Wilhite, Modbe's founder and clothing designer. She is next to me wearing the sweater with the large pink and brown stripes. I had previously met Trish when she and a few other gals from Modbe Corporate came to my house to present an area training for a bunch of consultants in our corner of Idaho. I found out then and still know now that I am part of something bigger and better than I ever knew. By joining Modbe, I'd not only found a fun way to earn money and wear sweet stylin' clothes for FREE, but I was part of something bigger and better than I'd ever dreamed possible. My circle of family and friends just keeps getting bigger. I have Modbe and Trish to thank for that!

Someone once said "A Stranger is a friend you have yet to meet." I am always meeting new friends with Modbe. Stacy was my hostess last Thursday and she is great. She has two little ones, Parker is three and Tandi is not quite a year old. What a great home. I am going to use more florals in my house of boys!!! I mentioned Stacy in my first post and it is only fitting she get credit again for getting me going on this blogging thing. What a blast. Anyway, Stacy had a $500 party and is the new proud owner of a great outfit--the Straight-A Skirt in Dark Chococate that she will pair with the Blue Christmas Tied w/a Bow top. She also got an In the Navy Re-zip Hoodie and the orange floral bandeau swim top. All four items for just under $50! If that isn't incentive enough to book a party right now, I don't know what is! Thanks for an awesome party, Stacy. I know I had tons of fun getting to know you and your group of girl friends.

Modbe's 2008 Swim Preview

At the end of January, I attended Modbe's Swim Preview for the upcoming year. In it's third year, Modbe's swim is most certainly anticipated and Modbe didn't disappoint. With 20 tops and three suits for the tween sizes, Modbe's line is HUGE! I think the suits really speak for themselves. If you haven't peeked already, do so now. You can look at each suit indiviually as you shop on my website (see link on side bar) or take a look at the gallery of photos on my website for some great fashionable photos. These pictures make you want to don a pair of heels and pearls and head to the nearest beach. Of course, in January this isn't quite so practical so natarually to the event I wore my favorite comfy top, the edgy vee in blue tease. With me in the photo are my fashionable friends Victoria Collings and Michelle Bowen who also sell Modbe here in Idaho.

CPA Clever Post Anxiety

No, I am not looking for a Certified Public Accountant, I am suffering from Clever Post Anxiety. One certainly shouldn't be nervous about posting for the first time, but I find that I am. How can you be clever and whitty while all the while professional with a little personality on the side? Hopefully in post to come, all that will come out...and so justifiably, I am suffering from an accute case of Clever Post Anxiety.

So, a quick history of how this all came about...I was at a Modbe party last night with a new friend, Stacy. We were discussing blogs and my lack thereof. I went home with a vision of blogged Modbe parties with pictures of me and my hostesses, new recuits, and the like. And so again, Modbe has brought just one more first into my life with many more firsts to come. Enjoy!
